Staff Management
Since February 2014, I have managed a team of five to ten individuals at any given time, including direct reports, temps, interns, and freelancers. In this time, I have hired new staff members, given yearly reviews, lead regular team meetings, negotiated freelancer contracts, discussed job requirements and performances with Human Resources, and worked with outside agencies for temp and intern placement. My philosophy as a manager is to lead with kindness and understanding, believing it is important to be a team leader rather than a “boss” and do what I can to help all members of my team grow in their careers.
Vendor Management
In both my time as a self-employed creative director as well as in my roles at HarperCollins and St. Martin’s Press, I have worked closely with vendors to achieve the perfect vision for multiple print and digital materials. In doing so, I have created close relationships with a number of vendors that have allowed us to negotiate time- and cost-saving options for everything from digital gaming experiences and videos to massive printed projects with multiple components. I believe communication, budgeting know-how, and being quality- and detail-oriented are key in these business relationships.
Event Management
From requesting a presence at various conventions and fairs through to packing and processing inventory at the very end, I have handled all areas of event management. For over six years, I have had a hand in creating company presence at multiple high-level conventions, working closely with exhibition companies like ReedPop and internal teams to coordinate our location, the layout of our booths, inventory, promotions, advertising, and sales. In addition, I have also initiated presence at events, such as MacMillan’s appearance at the 2019 Brooklyn Pride Festival, where we sold the majority of our products and were the sole publisher present.
